MARION COWINGS JAZZ VOCAL WORKSHOP
Marion Cowings’ jazz vocal workshops give advanced singers, as well as working vocalists a forum to polish performance skills and work on new material.

Participants gain experience working with a variety of outstanding instrumentalists while benefiting from a network of peers. Vocalists participate in an up-beat, supportive environment where everyone shares helpful suggestions. Workshops are held in a jazz club in Manhattan complete with a sound system and CD burner to record your session digitally.
What's Covered?:
Elements of Successful Jazz Vocal Performance-
Examine the process of selecting and delivering songs; learn the elements of an original style; the importance of storytelling; how emotional honesty wins an audience; learn techniques to aid in consistent pitch and breath control; handle the seductive power of tone quality; scat singing demystified; conducting your ensemble; working with a microphone and understanding the public address system; eliminating stage fright; are you too hip for the room?
Participants are added to the workshop mailing list giving information on open mics, opportunities for singers in the NY area, gig announcements, etc.
Cowings has produced and appeared in dozens of jazz concert/lectures for Lincoln Center's "Meet The Artist" series. He has also produced hundreds of concert/ lectures for the acclaimed Young Audiences program in New York City's public schools, which received the1995 President's National Arts Award. Marion, along with Mark Murphy, Kevin Mahogany, Dr. Billy Taylor and Sheila Jordan is also a judge of the annual Michelob Red Ribbon Jazz Vocal Competition held in New York City.
His students have included Harry Connick, Jr., Michael Bublé, Miles Griffith, & Rosanna Vitro.
